Paganello - Ambiance

During the women's final at Paganello , there was a huge ambiance around the central field (also know as the showpitch).
Imagine more than 1200 people/players singing and dancing , and in this particular case all singing the same song.
Kind of a show-off between the people on the seaside of the pitch and the people on the landside of the pitch.
Started by a bunch of young Brits , but after a while smoothly picked up by the rest of the audience , this was a cheer that gave me goosebumps , each and every time I heard so many ultimate players having fun together.
It's been more than 13 years ago since I've been at a soccer game or even in a soccer stadion but now I can imagine what it feels like to all sing together and cheer.
I liked it.
A lot.

Frisbee History on Calendar

A little history on the name "frisbee" , in Dutch on a calendar called De Druivelaar (pretty famous in Flanders...).

Tourney Report - Love At 1st Flight

Last saturday 8AM.

I got out of bed to go to the toilet.

Suddenly I realised that the bright light shining into my eyes was the sun and that the weather was excellent.

Ding !

It hit me instantly that Diabolic Heaven was having their Love at First Flight hat tourney.

So I jumped in the car and had a 1h55min drive to Hasselt to play my favourite game.

It was a fun tourney , although I was only there for one day.

The weather was fabulous and some might say it was actually a little too hot to play sports..

Nevertheless some 50 players had some nice games and a nice time as well.

A lot of young players were there but this probably had something to do with the fact that at first 'LAFF' was announced as a team tournament for players with under 2 years of experience , but then changed to a Hat tourney due to so many team cancellations.

I'm thinking Sigi went to bed with a smile on his face on sunday evening.

He and his teammates managed to organise a tourney which showed a part of the future of belgian ultimate and as a bonus , Standard , of whom Sigi is a die-hard unconditional fan , won the belgian football title.

Picture Above : Even though I didn't know Tom (Vanryckeghem , a very talented Freezzzbeezzz player who unfortunately passed away at the age of 24 in 1996) I'm pretty sure he would have been proud to see what his teammates achieve every year in his honour.

Tom's Tourney 2009 once again confirmed it's legendary status.

Tourney Report - G Spot

I learned a lot at last weekend's G Spot.

Not only another confirmation that I am so crazy about this game, but a new insight I've never really given much thought at : Organising a tourney takes more than one thinks.

Dries , me and all Gentley's gave it our best effort to make you feel as comfortable as possible.

Don't know if we helped you find your G Spot, but I know we found ours.

Going through all preparations and organising the tourney itself , it became clear to me that lots of people have been going through these efforts for years in a row.

Without these people , without their passion , there would be no place for ultimate players to meet in such a way.
Okay , we would probably still meet at trainings/practices and friendly games , but tournaments are what make this game so real.
People are what make this game so magic.
I believe that ultimate is based upon the Spirit of the Game , and this consists of so many more things than we can ever think of.

Some things you can only feel.

And this kind of magic I've felt again last weekend at G Spot.People coming together to play their favourite sport , but who are there for so much more.
Ultimate is about friendship and I hope G Spot helped you have some good times with your friends and fellow players.

A nice weekend, with nice people, nice games, a nice party and a great atmosphere.

Busy Busy Busy

Okay , G Spot is over and I'm getting adjusted to my new job : time to get the blog up and running again.

Belgian Juniors Training for EYUC

Today I passed by the Tom's Tourney fields in Brugge to find all belgian juniors having a big practice training for the upcoming European Youth Ultimate Championships (EYUC).
Belgium will have 3 teams representing the national honour and showing that we've got a bright future with enthousiastic players like this !!

In Ultimate , just as in any other sport , it's really important to teach the next generation.
The better the ultimate-education they will get , the better the level of belgian ultimate will be in just a few years when all of these boys and girls will be playing at the top of their game !
Thanks to people like Guido (FB'zzz) , Bert Dhuyve (Slijpschijven) , Ollie and Pat (Moon) and Sigi (Diabolic Heaven) these youngsters get an opportunity to play and learn this fantastic game !
Keep up the good work , coaches !

Love (h)At First Flight - FORMAT CHANGE!

Ok , recovering from Tom's Tourney didn't take me quite as long as I thought.

I'm happy with the result we put down and I am thrilled to have had such a great time again.

But back in the real world , it's time to realise I need to put some info on here.

And since many of you keep reading this (for which I am very grateful ! thank you ! ) I should post important news for belgian ultimate players.

The format of the Diabolic Heaven tournament 'Love at First Flight' changed to HAT!!!
Here's the info as described by Sigi (DH president) :

Hi folks
due to several cancellations for the Love At First Flight tournament we've changed the format.
Love At First Flight will be a HAT tournament open for all players (male and female) of all levels! So even if you're playing 40 years like Ivan you can register for LAFF.

Don't know what a hat tournament is?
In a HAT tournament all the names of all the players are collected in ...let's say a hat, teams are formed by drawing names out of the hat. So you'll play in a team formed by players from all over Belgium, with different levels of play. It's great fun and you get to know lots of people.

Costs: due to the format change the costs have changed: there won't be a teamfee and playersfee will be 30€. If you've already payed your teamfee we'll calculate it in the playersfee and refund you the difference)
