Quote :

This is a quote as read on Facebook.
It's so amazingly funny and cool it I just had to publish this.
It was a reaction on my facebook-status which said we just won the Open De Touraine tournament and that I scored a Callahan in the final.
It's by a French player (one head bigger than me and probably a few years older) with great spirit by the name of Simon Multon :

"Super , Bommie ! Quand je serais grand , je voudrais être un belge !"

PS : I am waiting for some pictures I took with somebody else's camera for a report...

VICTORY IS OURS !!!!!!

OPEN DE TOURAINE :
Mixed Division :
1.ChiOuiOui (Gentle-Slijpschijven-Jetset-Diabolic MIX)
Open Division :

Summertime = Frisbeetime !

The sun is out , the temperature is rising...
It's the time of the year to grab your disc and go out and play.
Enjoy the disc and learn from its curves..
Practice makes perfect , and if this can be a tip&trick : practice your throws whenever you get the chance to do so. Whether you're throwing on the beach with your girlfriend or hucking discs around the threes in the park with your teammate , try and maintain a certain focus and try to improve your techniques.
It's free , take the opportunity !
And when you're too tired to go out again , check out Get Horizontal.
The archive is getting bigger (for those of you who haven't been reading since the beginning) and there's plenty more coming up !
Bar Do Peixe stories , Open De Touraine this weekend , DDC in Brugge this weekend , Disconnected Tournoi in Huy this weekend....

Plenty of Disc action !!
Summertime !!!

Windmill Report - Part 3

At Windmill 2009 we saw the formation of a really cool team :Team/Tim Burton...!
A little inside information by Mikey P (XLR8RS , in this case Team Burton)

1.How come XL and Moon decided to team up for Windmill ?

"It's a tough tournie and neither of us had enough players so we decided to team up with a 100% Brussels team (and Tim and Boris from Mechelen)."

1B.have you done this before ?

"Not as Team Burton, but of course Moon and XL players have played in the same team before, eg the Xmen team in Cologne the week before."

2.How was Brussels ultimate back in the days , without Moon and maybe with comets ?

"Er, you're asking the wrong person, I've only been here for 6 years. xlr8rs has existed for about 30 years, and they used to actually win some tournaments! Olivier formed the Mooncatchers about 6 years ago."

3.Where did the name Tim/team Burton come from ??

"It's the invention of Arac, who looks just like Tim Burton funnily enough.

It stands for Brussels Ultimate Revival Team, Or Not?!"

4.Is this really a Brussels ultimate revival or just a one time thing?

"We're hoping to do it again next year, and maybe another tournament some time somewhere."

5.Did you like it ???

"Yes it was great, we had an excellent time and managed to win a few games! :D"

Tim Burton is the big Hollywood movie director known from films such as Nightmare Before Christmas , Batman , Batman Returns , Edward Scissorhands and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...

It was fun seeing the Brusseleirs play and seeing old friends getting back together in a mixed team.
I guess they wouldn't allow this in football/soccer !
Go Ultimate , Go Belgium !

Little Mistake about Yes But Nau

My bad , my bad.. Some people are pulling my hair and shouting I forgot some belgian teams...
XLR8RS and Scan Disc were there as well !!
But I'll be needing some more information , ey !
I don't know the ranking of both teams (not mentioned on their website yet) and I do not know which belgian players played with Scan Disc.
If ever you have any information over a tournament you've been at and I wasn't their , just send me a little report !!

Yes but Nau but Yes but Nau but Yes....

Boys time at Le Pouliguen (somewhere near Nantes , France) about two weeks ago...
Füf,Freezzzbeezzz (winners of the 2006 edition !),Slijpschijven and some extra belgian players played the 10th edition of the legendary Yes But Nau tournament.
Some interesting pictures made by Glenn (Freezzzbeezzz) and Six (FüF , Gentle) stolen right off facebook (you know you only get the good stuff right here !!).
If you want stories , better ask the boys who were there..
You may have to ask twice because I've got a pretty strong feeling that what happens in Nantes , stays in Nantes .. :)

Picture below : Yes But Nau : proudly sponsored by Jupiler !!

Picture below : Want Mannen Weten Waarom...

Final ranking :

Random Pictures - Best Teampic Ever ?

I've seen quite a lot of teampictures but few made me smile like this one does..
Supercool team picture of Jetset (Leuven) in a tree at the 20th edition of Talampaya (Geneva , Switzerland) a week and a half ago.
Props to Jetset for such an original picture , taken with Freek's camera (but he's in the picture so...)
Real nice , guys and girls , I dig ideas like these !!
Vréé wijs !

And talking of supercool things , check out the surroundings of this tournament.
How great is it waking up knowing you're about to play ultimate on fields with a view like this ??
Both pictures by Freek and stolen right off Facebook.
Hope you still don't mind , mate !

Keep on reading , more to come !

X Men & XElles - Belgians in Deutschland

Check out the picture above of a pickup team called X Men put together by Arne from XLR8RS.
Some XL Air Raiders , some Moons , some French and some German players put together in the mix to play at the Disc Days in Cologne a week and a half ago while other teams were at Talampaya or Nantes.
Here's a little comment from Ollie (Mooncatchers) :

Arne from Xlr8rs really quickly built a pick-up team for this tournament, with some French players, German players and some Xlr8rs and Moons. We only lost 2 games in the first poule against Ultimate Vibration and Zamperl, who finished 2nd and 3rd

We, X-Men, finished 9th and we won the Spirit of the game award !

Great tournament, Belgian teams should try this one too ! Good level, women and open division, cheap player-fee and beer 33 cl at 1 €… What do you want more ?

Picture above : Well here's something you didn't see before :
X Elles
, the new Brussels ladies team.
It's , as you can see , a mix of mostly XLR8RS women and some other Mooncatcherladies.
A nice opportunity to play women's teams on high level tourneys , so having a new belgian women's team is definitely a good thing for the expansion of our sport.
These girls will also be competing at the Belgian Women Cup in September.
More info to come on that !
Here's a little comment (in French!!) by Jo , Christine et Justine(!) :

Windmill Preview

Still dreaming about Talampaya , which has only been 7 days ago , and here's the Windmill Windup knocking at our door again !
The 5th edition of one of Europe's biggest grass ultimate tourney's promises to be amazing once again.
This weekend 4 belgian teams (Jetset, Gentle and MissB and Team Burton , a mix of XLR8RS and Mooncatchers---sorry I didn't know your teamname) will be playing high level ultimate in Amsterdam on a brand new location as stated by their renewed website.
For those of you who've never been there , and also those of you who have , check out these videos from previous years.
Video below : make sure you have the volume on at 0:30 !

Video below : Check out Jelle (Gentle , playing with 'Pintje' , the belgian open team in 2007) and his massive huck across the field at 0:44 and caught by ??? , and another sweet diving defense at 1:02 by another belgian who I can't recognise due to the crappy movie quality...

Video below : Check out some highlights of last year starring Willeke,Liesl,Nathalie,...(even though MissB and Gentle played supergood last year , and the general level was really high this video with highlights isn't so impressive , I saw some way more amazing things happen on the field but then again I didn't have a camera)

Let's rock Holland !!!!
This is one of the tourney's you know you practiced for (well , me and my team Gentle did) so I'm really looking forward to playing.
Feeling excited here , only 4 days to go !!

All info at http://www.windmillwindup.com/
And if we don't manage to win , maybe we can give it a go at the Windmill Quizzz...
Expect a report after we get back !

TIPS & TRICKS III - Cutting

Okay , you're in the middle of high season (at least in Belgium).
You've been training for BUOC , Tom's Tourney , Talampaya , Nantes , Paganello , Lloret de Mar or whatever else , but you need something more.

This is a tip I can give you : open your eyes and take a look at other great players.
There's tons of information to upload into your system just by looking at games from top teams with top players in there.
I've had a few big tourneys in the last few months and every time I saw a nice game (be it a final or not) I took a moment to pick out one runner (cause this is my favourite position) and follow his every move.

It makes you think more about what you're doing on a field.
It makes you realise where the space is to go to or what you can do to get ridd of your defender or to get the disc.
Trust me , it helps.
And if you don't trust me , ask yourself the question why some guys always get open and get the disc... ?

Here's some cutting info from a legendary frisbee player called Jim Parinella (I don't know too much about this guy , except he's american and been playing for many many years now and blogging about it too)

1. Cut sharp.
2. Cut hard.

3. Cut decisively
4. Think, but only before or after the cut.
5. Know when to just run.

Cut sharp
. Don’t round your cuts. Plant on one foot, push off hard, and go. The longer it takes you to change direction, the less separation you will get from your defender.

Cut hard. Don’t jog out there when you are actively cutting. One place where this is especially important is at the start of a deep cut. For your first 3-6 steps, go all out without looking up or back, until you’re near top speed and have some separation and can check back to see whether the throw is up and where it’s going. Further, cut hard when you’re the decoy in a called play, or else an astute defender will know that it’s a fake.

Cut decisively
. As Idris said, “Oh, you had ‘em.” You really only have time for one or two efforts before you become a clog. Commit to something, if that doesn’t work, quickly try something else, and if you don’t think you’re open in the first three steps, get the hell out of the way.

Think, but only before or after the cut
. During the setup phase of the cut, you might have a chance to think about what you’re going to do, and can try to manipulate the defender into giving you a straight path to the disc. But once you are in motion, you can only react. You need to internalize all the small details (defender body position, field space, playing conditions)
that let you know whether you’re open or not without having to think about it. After the cut, you can think about what it was that made it work or not so that you build up your experience, until eventually it will become more of an instinct.

Know when to just run
. You need to learn when you can just sprint in a straight line and be open. Fortunat calls these “opportunity cuts.” These arise when you know that the disc has changed positions but the defender does not, because you have kept him busy enough that he can’t check in. But this also arises in the middle of a faking sequence, when you can recognize the exact moment that the defender has committed himself to another direction and you can cut behind him.

Tourney Report - Talampaya 2009

Talampaya , a tourney celebrating it's 20th anniversary , was once again a real success !
Only my second time I've been there but I have to admit it was even better than last time I was there 2 years ago , but I'm guessing the weather was one of the things that put the big smile on my face.
Steady nice sunshine all weekend long and a great atmosphere !
Here's some pictures that should give you an idea of what the Talampaya ingredients are :

-32 INTERNATIONAL COED TEAMS :

The tourney ended with two real nice finals:
Open division : Flying Angels Bern (FAB , CH) against Freespeed (CH) where FAB came out victorious with their monster strong team.
Coed Division : a nice final of Black Bonzaï (an international mix team with amongst other our very own Chimme and a legend called Nasser-who got seriously injured at his knee during the final) against another real strong Czech team of which I don't remember the name but damn , they were good as well.
Another weekend to remember , although all belgian teams didn't play as well as expected.
Nevertheless , a big chapeau to Jetset for winning the lower poule !!!

Geneva - Nantes - Ghent

Roadtripping on both sides of France last weekend.
Gentle Mixxxed , Gentle Open and Jetset went down to Geneva , Switzerland to celebrate and play the 20th edition of Talampaya ;
while FüF , Freezzzbeezzz , Slijpschijven and some extra belgian players in a team called Triips drove down to the lovely beach of Le Pouliguen near Nantes , France for another edition of the super Yes But Nau tournament.
A lot of hours spent in the car , but each and every one of them worth it.
Full reports coming thursday (tomorrow) afternoon.
(A little delay cause of a burnt graphic card in my computer...)
