Last weekend we had a lovely indoor tournament in the beautiful city of Tongeren,Belgium.

Below are the results :

Spirit of the Game: ULB

Winners photo contest:
Best team picture: Fris'Bisontins
Best portret: Odpalamy
Best in-game-action: The life and love of a she devil
Best random picture: Diabolic Heaven

In the coed division Diabolic Heaven, who have been playing as a coed team for a very long time now, was too strong for the competition and crushed their opponents Fruehmix (Germany) in a very nice final.
The last point of this final was one to remember, including some cross-field hammers and blades and a lot of show for the crowd.
The open division was won by the team I played in by the name of Once Upon A Time.
A team gathered by veteran player Ivan (picture below - who has been playing over 25 years in Belgium) and who is about to end his career as an ultimate player.
So this tourney was actually a farewell dedication (indoor; because the same thing still has to happen at his jubilee tourney outdoor).
In fact this is one of the things I like about playing ultimate as well, it's cool to see friends make up mixed teams just for a specific tourney. You get to know new people and you get to learn a new style of play.
I wouldn't see football/soccer players do this....
Big thanks to Sigi and the crew for this event, you made me rediscover my passion for indoor ultimate !

Tourney Preview - Discolorful November

I'm really looking forward to another tourney.
Although it's being played indoor, which actually is not my favourite terrain(since I like mud), I'll still be enjoying the fun,the ultimate, the friends and the partying that goes down at every tournament.
It's always nice to go to a new tourney, not knowing what to expect..
And to be honest, it's been too long since I've played a tourney (Burla Beach Cup at Viareggio, Italy in late september) so I need to get my fix again.
Anyhow, hope to see a lot of you there and let the indoor season start !
The weather already proved to be perfect for indoor ultimate !
And here's what the Diabolic Heaven crew has to offer to us :

■A sparkling dome with 2 indoor Ultimate fields.

■8 open teams and 8 coed* teams will do their best to compete with you while keeping up the SOTG.

■Because Ultimate players are always hot, in between games you can splash in the swimming pool, especially reserved for you… and free of charge.

■After a full day of great games and fun we will satisfy your hunger with our famous Diabolic pasta.

■With your tummies filled we 'll head to the city center of Tongeren, the oldest town of Belgium, where we'll check in into our sleeping accommodation (after a nice party ?). Those of you who don't mind spending a bit more for some privacy and a real bed will have the possibility to reserve a room at a well equiped youth hostel, the others can huddle together in a cosy sleeping hall.

Talking about indoor tournaments in November, who remembers this one ?
Organised by XLR8RS back in 2006 ! That was fun !

Belgium @ WCBU 2011 - Message From Wouter

Check out Wouter's message regarding the Belgian Open team at the 2011 World Beach Ultimate Championships.

"Dear Ultimate lovers,

Many nice things to happen in summer 2011. One of them is the World Beach Ultimate Championships, that is going to be held in Italy on August 22-28. The venue looks great: check http://www.wcbu2011.com/

I will be organizing the open team. I would like to make a team with similar spirit and skills like team Too in Viareggio. The name of the team: Team B (from Beach, Belgium, and indeed a wink to team Too). However, although much of the team Too players will be in the team, more national players will be needed to complete the team (we might eg need some young legs). If you feel like joining this team, please send me an e-mail (woutervandamme[at]hotmail[dot]com) .
I will not be organizing selections, so if you’re worried that I might not know you very well, motivate your skills in the writing. I will not be judging on my own, but ask several people’s opinion.

I want the team to be formed within the upcoming 2 weeks, so act fast.

If you’re a key person in a team, please forward this mail to your team’s mailinglist, so that everybody gets this info.

Looking forward to your writings!
Wouter
ps.Please reply at woutervandamme[at]hotmail[dot]com"

Random Video - No Tsu Oh @ Paganello Documentary

A small trailer of an upcoming documentary about the legendary team No Tsu Oh at the even more legendary and biggest tournament of the world: Paganello !
As these guys won the tournament 4 times between 2002 and 2008 somebody figured they deserved some kind of documentary.
If you're a Paga-fan you should check this out and see what it takes to win this ultra-party-tournament four times...
If you're not a Paga-fan, you've probably never been to this 5day mayhem weekend..
Here's the trailer, I'll keep you up to date whenever the real video is out !

More info on this project can be found at http://greatestultimate.com/wordpress/?p=1097
More info on Paganello at http://www.paganello.com/ , or click on the label Paganello in the right side column of this blog.
More documentaries, nèhh, actually only one which I wanted to repost right below here (since the one above reminded me of our own documentary, which I liked way more hehe) :

Revolver Wins USA Ultimate Championships !

The reigning World Champions Revolver from San Francisco's Bay Area won the 2010 USA Ultimate Championships.
They beat Boston's Ironside, including Nasser M'bae who is a really great French player who decided to go and play overseas, in a final which ended 15-10.
If you're wondering who these Revolver boys are, you can check out the link below, explaining the birth of this powerhouse team in 2006.
Here's one excerpt from this text :

"My approach was to bring together different groups of players who were familiar with each other and who had played together before. I also wanted to balance older, experienced players with young talent out of our strong local college programs. I felt that this was the best approach to building a team on a foundation of trust, hard work, selfless play and having fun,"
