Gentle Ladies Win Indoor Championship !
Last sunday the Mooncatchers had the pleasure of hosting the unofficial BUWIC (Belgian Ultimate Women's Indoor Championship) where the title was taken by the Gentle Ladies !
I'm really proud of these girls for confirming their qualities and showing what the Gentle way is all about.
As I've been told the overall level wasn't really sky-high, due to a lot of less-experienced players but it was a real pleasant day with some nice games as read in Olli's report below :
"We saw nice games, and it was great to have around 70 belgian girls (except 4 Eul'chtimate) playing ultimate for this really "belgian" 2011 edition. It was not officially a Belgian Ultimate Women Indoor Cup (BUWIC) but it looked like. Except Jet Set/Proppellers, almost all the possible teams in Belgium were there. The Mooncatgirls combined women from ULB, Mooncatchers and Xelles, and some Xelles and ULB also played with Eul'chtimate (Lille - France). In the other teams we saw a lot of new players, that's nice for the future of women ultimate in Belgium.
-Freespect - Mooncatgirls 6 - 5
It was 4 - 0 for Mooncatgirls, and then a great come-back ! What a beginning of the day.
-Slijpwijven - Schijnwerpers 4 - 7
-Xelles - Eul’chtimate 10 - 5
-Bobeezzz - Gentle 1 - 12
-Freespect - Schijnwerpers 6 - 10
-Slijpwijven - Mooncatgirls 7 - 3
-Eul’chtimate - Bobeezzz 8 - 6
1st surprise of the day, with Pauline "à la baguette" Eul'chtimate won their 1st game in their women's team history.
-Xelles - Gentle 4 - 11
It was 3 - 3, after a really nice start of Xelles, but then a better defense and pressure from Gentle blokked the Xelles offense.
-Freespect - Slijpwijven 5 - 4
Great close game from both teams, and Freespect finally took the place for the semi against the strong Gentle team.
-Schijnwerpers - Mooncatgirls 8 - 8
Nice offensive game with a lot of long passes and a lot of points and fun for both teams.
-Bobeezzz - Xelles 3 - 8
-Gentle - Eul’chtimate 12 - 0
-Slijpwijven - Bobeezzz (1/2 5th to 8th) 7 - 4
-Eul'chtimate - Mooncatgirls (1/2 5th to 8th) 4 - 8
-Schijnwerpers - Xelles (1/2 final) 6 - 8
-Freespect - Gentle (1/2 final) 5 - 7
What a nice game from Freespect, they fight on defense and Ine and Nele have to make their best to finally see a win by Gentle. If my remember is good, Freespect was leading 4 - 1 and then came back at 5 - 5 !
-Eul'chtimate - Bobeezzz (7th – 8th place) 10 - 6
-Slijpwijven - Mooncatgirls (5th – 6th place) 9 - 3
-Schijnwerpers - Freespect (3rd - 4th place) 8 - 6
-Gentle - Xelles FINAL 9 - 5
The Spirit of the Game goes to Schijnwerpers Ladies who didn't vote because they said it was to hard to seperate the teams... the SoG was too nice all day long for them.
Nothing more to say, except that the girls liked the Mooncatchers toasties !
Oh yes, thanks to Arnaud, our Prez, for working hard all day long and the mooncatchers who helped (Fab, Laulau, Lulu, Solenn, Tof), and Patricia too to organise it.
I hope that someone will organise an Outdoor Women's Day this year !

Tips & Tricks VIII - Setting Goals
Here's some more of my random Ultimate thoughts throughout the day. As spring time may not be so very far away anymore, it's been preparation time for a few weeks/months now.
At a certain level of Ultimate there comes a time where it's only up to your dedication to see if you can improve some (or a lot ?) more.
One thing to do that with is setting goals with your team.
Thinking about your team ambition at the national championship, or setting goals for your practices, or reaching a certain ranking at a chosen tournament are all great ideas to start working on.
Another thing to do is get your individual skills to a higher level, only in the purpose of serving your team the best you can give.
The point I'm getting to, is about those personal goals.
When you start playing Ultimate you first start learning about basic technique (throwing skills) and tactics (where to run and how to play).
If you've played for several years you get to a certain level after which it's difficult to get any better, so you have to find your weaknesses and make them stronger.
We like to call them 'Werkpuntjes', something that can translate to 'points to work on'.
I believe I can be a better middle for my team if I can do more than just run, catch the disc and give it back to a handler.
And that's how I found the Youtube film below.
Pretty funny at times, but an exercise extremely useful.
I've posted some more issues about this more than a year ago, check it out at http://gethorizontal.blogspot.com/2009/10/some-ultimate-thoughts-around-midnight.html

Here's another one of Mister Rob's ultimate videos.
He may have a chest like concrete, I still believe we can get a lot of power from this rotating movement.
Wanna go out and throw.
