Paganello 2011 - Seaside Of The Beach !

Too bad I couldn't make this year's edition of the biggest tournament in the world, Paganello 2011.
Seemed like a big party once again !
Here's a little video I found on the ambiance in the beach arena during finals.
Congratulations to Los Rabbit for winning the tournament twice in a row after coming in 2nd to UTI in 2009.
Till next year !

NEWS - GHENT UNIVERSITY (Be) Wins University Ultimate Tournament 2011

Last weekend the Amsterdam based team NUTS hosted 14 teams from Netherlands,United Kingdom,France,Germany,Sweden and Belgium at the University Ultimate Tournament.
This tournament used to be held in Brussels (Belgium) and was previously organised by the ULB team (Université Libre de Bruxelles) but due to location difficulties this was passed on to the beautiful location in Amsterdam (previous location of Windmill Windup).
This weekend saw the Belgians from the (Association of the)GHENT UNIVERSITY be too strong for all teams (Association between Ugent,Hogent,Artevelde en Howest)
Being really proud of my fellow citizens I'm also really proud of this organizing comittee from Nuts.
This might just be a big signal that university ultimate might be booming business in the next few years in Europe. It's been a huge league on it's own in the US of A and has always produced some great talents in club ultimate.

Way to go Europe, way to go Belgium !

News - GUAYOTA Wins Costa Brava Tourney !

If you've ever been there, you know the Lloret De Mar beach tourney is all madness.
From four-star hotels to the hot beach and crazy clubs like Moby's and Tropics, this tourney is one you need to attend.
Guayota won this year's edition and if I'm not mistaken this is not the first time they've won.
Diz-Cu from Portugal took the highest spirit honors.
Congrats !

BUOC Preview - Mini Interview with Glenn/PJ (FREEZZZBEEZZZ)

Here’s a little interview with Glenn and Pieterjan from Freezzzbeezzz about the upcoming final weekend of the Belgian Ultimate Outdoor Championship.

The battle for Belgium’s crown will be coming to an end and only 6 more teams are in the running. (Freezzzbeezzz,Gentle,Jetset,Mooncatchers,Schijnwerpers,Slijpschijven)

I asked some people for some opinions and here is what Glenn had to say :
(NOTE : this is Bommie's translation of what Glenn answered by mail. Please note that small mistakes COULD MAYBE lead to different point of views (but will probably not :)

-Glenn,chances are pretty big Freezzzbeezzz will make it to the semi-final this year. How does this make you feel ? Is it where Freezzzbeezzz has always belonged ?

Glenn : "It would be a confirmation of our abilities if we actually make it. But we still have to get there, so we won’t rush into conclusions."

PJ : "Top 4 is where we actually belong. We didn’t make it the last few years due to injuries and sometimes not being able to put our best team together. It would be a great boost for the future."

-You lost from Jetset but beat Moon with 4 points difference. Did this seem like an easy victory ? Was Jetset really too strong for you ?

"I couldn’t compare to the game against Jet Set because I wasn’t there yet. Against Moon we played a really great game but they also gave us too much space to play. Combined with some errors by them the victory was somewhat surprisingly more easy than we thought."

-How do you like this year’s system/schedule ?

"I think it’s a good system. We might have to arrange something that the points of the first round/poule count for something. Maybe you could take these points to the next round, or half of them ?"

-Ambitions for this weekend ?

Glenn : "Semi finals and after that we’ll see. Anything is possible if we don’t have too many injured players."
PJ : "Beating Schijnwerpers"

-Any other thoughts on BUOC ? General level ? How did the B-Freezzz do ?

Glenn : "I’ve seen to few games to be able to judge the general level of play. The B-Freezzz are doing okay, but played with a lot of girls last weekend and were missing some handlers…"

-Any predictions on the gold medal ?

"Glenn : Gentle."

"PJ : Gentle or Moon (both teams with biggest and/or strongest core)"

BUOC Preview - Mini Interview with Olivier (MOONCATCHERS)

Here’s a little interview with Olivier from Mooncatchers (2008 and 2009 Belgian champions !) about the upcoming final weekend of the Belgian Ultimate Outdoor Championship.

The battle for Belgium’s crown will be coming to an end and only 6 more teams are in the running. (Freezzzbeezzz,Gentle,Jetset,Mooncatchers,Schijnwerpers,Slijpschijven)

I asked some people for some opinions and here is what Olli had to say (speaking for himself, not in name of his team !) :

-Olivier, it seems to be pretty clear that Gentle (last year’s champions) and Jetset (currently vice champion) will be in the semi final. Are you pretty sure Mooncatchers (who already had two defeats) is also going to reach the same, or might some teams still make it hard for you to get there ?

"We never know because all the Belgian teams always play their best game against us ! It seems that we are the team to beat, even if we are not the Belgian Champion. Maybe because it's fun to play against (or with) us ?"

-Olivier, the Mooncatchers had a seemingly not so difficult win over Jetset with 5 points difference but then went down with a 4 point difference against Freezzzbeezzz. Was Bruges really too strong ?

"The Beezzz played an almost perfect game with a minimum of mistakes in offence (Jones scored a lot of points , PJ was everywhere and Ella played a great game as did all the Beezzz).

Even if it is not a good excuse, it was the Sunday morning game against Brugge, and the field was, as Peter (Jet Set) said, the biggest field in the world that we have ever seen (44m on 70m playing field...).

But it is good that we lost that game after our nice win against Jet Set (the 1st in a long time), it's always good to return to reality..."

-Oli, the last game of the previous weekend was a defeat with two points against Gentle. Are you keeping the real forces for the games that truly matter ?

"Gentle-Moon, 1st game of the 2nd pool of 6, was not for us the most important game before the semis. But we played it seriously and it was a really close game, all game long. Some details make the difference, like often when the final score is 15/13."

-Is there any team you would like to avoid in semi-finals ?

"We prefer to avoid Gentle in semis, because they are the best team for the moment, in my opinion. Even if we have not lost against Gentle in semi for a long time now."

-What are this year's ambitions with Mooncatchers ?
"Win the BUOC ! And then the BBC if it's not at the same time as the EUCR, because we want to participate to this regional euro."

-Any predictions on the gold medal ?
"Gentle ! Or Moon ... who knows ?"

-How have Mooncatchers 2 been doing ?
"Moon 2 is in progress and we have a lot of young and talentuous player; playing in the 1st division is really hard for them but they learn a lot and next year we will integrate some to Moon 1 or maybe we will do 2 equal teams, to be followed."

-Do you like the schedule/format of this year ?
"This format looks ok for the moment. We play more games than with the previous system, so it is good in a way, even if I would prefer longer games than 65' or 75'."
