Random Quote - Become A Better Athlete (Melissasultimatefitness)
Here's a little quote as found on www.melissasultimatefitness.com
"Too often I hear Ultimate players place artificial limitations on themselves. They think they are too old, too injured, too fat, or too whatever to take their game to the next level. Many players are under the impression that they have peaked in high school or college and it has to be all downhill from there. This is all nonsense. Unless you were doing serious athletic training as a high schooler (and I’m not talking about just being on the soccer team), chances are you have barely tapped into your full athletic potential.
Is anything holding you back?
..
Regardless of what type of athlete you are today, you can become a better athlete tomorrow.
Aim for progress, not perfection."

Music For Life - Diabolic Heaven LOGO4LIFE !
All Belgian readers will have heard of MUSIC FOR LIFE, but for those of you who haven't, here's the deal : Studio Brussels, the leading music radio station in Belgium, is organising the 6th and last edition of this fundraising campaign called Music For Life. It's a setup where 3 radiohosts get locked up in a glass house for one week and make radio from that big glass house, which everyone can come to visit. Listeners can donate money while asking for records they want to hear, and all profits go to a special charity chosen by the people from the Red Cross (international aid organisation).
This year all funds go to the battle against dhiarrea, which is the biggest cause of death for children around the world.
Diabolic Heaven, a frisbee team from Hasselt,Belgium, showed us (one way of) how to support the action by donating it's LOGO to this charity fundraising.
Here's what Fery from Diabolic Heaven had to say about this :
"In 2011 we donate our beautiful logo for life.
We encourage all the
Frisbee teams in Belgium to do the same.
Because Frisbee players DO give a shit"
WANNA DONATE YOUR LOGO AS WELL OR JUST SUPPORT THE FUNDRAISING ?

Random Video - Highlights Of German Nationals 2011
Check out this highlight footage of the German Nationals 2011 between Heidees & Woodchicas (winners) in women's division and Bad Skid (winners) vs Heidees in Open Division.
BUIC - Update Division 1
Here's a little report as written by Sigi (Diabolic Heaven) on the second day of the Belgian Ultimate Indoor Championship in Division 1 :
"Last sunday Division 1 played in the nice sportcentre of
Tongeren.
Huyltimate and Eul'chtimate joined Division 1 instead of Gentle and Slijpschijven
First game of the day was between Mooncatchers and Diabolic Heaven.
Diabolic Heaven with only 6 players this day (exam period for the younger players) had only one goal: maintain their place in D1
Moon won the toss and both teams kept on scoring their offence points. In the middle of the game DH managed to score on a turn-over but Moon did the same thing in the next point. When time was over the score was 9-9...universe point with DH in offence...but it was Mooncatchers who took the victory after a turnover near the end-zone...

FreezzzBeezzz vs Huyltimate
First game in D1 this year for Huyltimate and they took a nice start, leading with 2-0 and 3-1 in the first minutes of the game. FB didn't panic, this young team already has lots of experience, and fought themselves back into the game. Both teams worked hard to score their offence points but during the game FB took over the lead and won the game 8-6

Mooncatchers-Eulchtimate
Also for Eulchtimate it was their first game in D1 this year. Eulchtimate has 2 teams in competition and some of their experienced players played in the second team. Therefore some 'new' players were given a chance to play in the first team. Eulchtimate fought hard but starting off against Moon who where on fire after their first win earlier that day isn't easy...Moon won the game 12-9

Eulchtimate fought hard but starting off against Moon who where on fire after their first win earlier that day isn't easy...Moon won the game 12-9
Diabolic Heaven - Huyltimate
There's a good friendship between both teams, sometimes they even form one
team to go to tourney's, so that also means that they know eachother's strong
(and less strong) points. We have to say that the game didn't reflect the normal
level of Huyltimate. They made more drops than they use to do and DH took
advantage of those little mistakes. Huyltimate fought back and the fatigue hit
the 6 DH players but by staying focussed DH took the victory 11-6
I didn't saw enough of the games Freezzzbeezzz vs Eulchtimate and
Mooncatchers - Huyltimate to give you more info but as the scores indicates the
games were again very close: FreezzzBeezzz won 12-8 against Eulchtimate and Moon
won with just one little point against Huyltimate 8-7
Diabolic Heaven - FreezzzBeezzz
The Beezzz won already 2 games and where up for a revenge for the defeat on
BUIC day 1. Both teams gave everything, fought for every centimeter or even
milimeter like Dries said after the game. In this high intensity fast playing
game it looked like Diabolic made a decisive break, leading 6-5 in offence with
only 50 seconds on the clock, but in a thrilling final minute FreezzzBeezzz came
back to 6-6 and at universe point there was a superb diving D from Lode just
before the DH endzone. With a quick short pass Freezzzbeezzz took the
victory...6-7
Huyltimate - Eulchtimate
both teams played eachother on BUIC day 1 with a victory for Huy. Both
teams were playing without fear to loose the game and that made it a scoring
festival with some nice long distance throws. You could see that both teams had
lot of fun playing this game...which was another thing that made the game nice
to watch. In the end Huyltimate won 10-8
FreezzzBeezzz vs Mooncatchers
The winner of this game would win BUIC day 2... FreezzzBeezzz still on a
high after the win against Diabolic started really strong...and kept on playing
strong during the whole game. Moon made a bit more drops than they normally do
and so FreezzBeezzz took the win with a rather big difference: 11-7
Last game of the day: Diabolic Heaven vs Eulchtimate
DH had to win this one to be sure to stay in D1. In the beginning of the
game both teams scored their offence points. DH with their well known fast
playing short combination game and Eulchtimate with some very nice long passes.
DH adjusted their D strategy which made it harder for Eulchtimate to play long.
DH took the advantage on some turnovers and finally won this game 11 - 8
Freezzz-Beezzz, Mooncatchers and Diabolic Heaven stay in division 1 and see
their chances to play the play-offs increasing...but there are still 2 game days
left with Gentle, Slijpschijven, Huyltimate and Eulchtimate willing to take
their places for the play-offs..."
NOTE : After closer examination it seems to be impossible for Slijpschijven (last year's indoor champions) to reach the playoffs. Mooncatchers 3 will also be battling for a place in the highly-desired play-offs. Thanks to the guys in the comments section for pointing this out.

EUCF 2011 - How GENTLE Rocked Like Never Before
So, you most probably already know FLYING ANGELS BERN have won the 2011 edition of the European Ultimate Championship Finals.
In an epic final they beat the other top-favourite team Clapham by Universe/double game point with 16-15 to take their second consecutive European title.
HOWEVER, this is not the (only) reason I am posting this.
All credits to FAB, Clapham, Skogs, Chevron, Freespeed and more for completing the top 5 at this high level European championship, but I would like to point your attention towards a small team from a small country : Gentle.
Some of the readers of this blog may have never heard of this three-time Belgian champion team, but as it is my hometeam I would like to point some things out on our accomplishments.
So, you might think, what is it they did ??
Well, we took an 11th place at the EUCF.
Once again you might think, what is so special about that ??
Well, here's the point of this post.
To Gentle and Belgian Ultimate in general this is quite the accomplishment.
Gentle was created in late 2004 from a few former Freezzzbeezzz members (EUCF 2011 organisers) but has always tried to keep moving forward. This lead to Belgian championships in 2006,2007 and 2010 and this 11th place at EUCF.
Okay, we're not going to be self-fulfilled (at all !) because an 11th place means there were still 10 teams ahead of you.
That's a lot.
But it can be put into perspective when thinking about it.
Gentle was actually accepted as a wildcard on this tournament, due to a drop-out from a Swedish (if I am not mistaken) team and according a EUF (European Ultimate Federation) decision.
We took the confidence that was granted to us, after only just missing the selection at regionals, and had a series of extra hard and focussed practices to get us ready and fired up for the EUCF.
And it worked.
As mentioned before, we only took 11th place but every player on our team felt proud and knew that this was only the beginning of more years to come.
We hadn't had a lot of successes in the European scene before, except for maybe some tight games at maybe Windmill Windup or Tom's Tourney, but there sure was a great atmosphere and vibe in the team during this EUCF.
When asked for his opinion, Gentle coach Morlie had this to say :
(Note : this is not a literal translation but more like a general impression of his words) :
"The team worked harder than ever before. We had a few aspects working in our advantage : home advantage, a good vibe in Belgium after EUC and WCBU and mostly the feeling of having nothing to lose after a year with a quite disappointing Tom's Tourney and Belgian Championship (for Gentle!).
This achievement at EUCF has been the result of many years of work and not only under my own leadership but the leadership of both previous coaches and with the new input of Matt, my fellow coach.
We grew as a team during the championship weekend and only lost 2 of the 9(?) games.
The most important for us was that we showed to be a valid competitor on the European level.
The intention of not going down without a fight lead us to 2 highlights by beating Ragnarok (against whom we've lost more than one tight battles) and also 7Schwaben.
Again we learned a lot from the intensity and efficiency from the bigger teams, and this is something we will be taking to next year's EUCR's and hopefully EUCF's..."
Day one started with a nice, close win over Friselis (French vice champs) by 16-14.
A more easy victory over Helsinki (15-10) took us to another defeat by Ragnarok 15-12.
Saturday morning we played Fusion during an amazing sunrise (pic below) and took victory over this very fast-playing team at 15-11.
Saturday at noon we had one of the most important games of the weekend, and maybe the season. It was a matter of honour of beating our Danish Ragnarok friends. And with the support of a whole bunch of locals, we finally took victory over them by playing our A-game for 15-11.
This time it was Gentle-time.
A hard game with defeat by CUSB La Fotta (15-12) later we only had one more game to play on sunday before getting to the beers while watching the finals.
An enthousiastic Gentle with a big will to win beat a more experienced 7Schwaben team with a crushing 15-10.
Let this be a start for Belgian Ultimate & Gentle to rise.
We will definitely do anything in our power to come out better and stronger to next year's season.
Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, come on now, it's Gentle time !
