BUIC Today - KFC Winning Streak !

So, today will be seeing a new day of the Belgian Ultimate Indoor Championships.
Another battle towards the playoffs for some, but for one team in particular a nice test to see how far they can stretch their luck (or should I say athleticism?).
I'm talking about KFC.

KFWho? you might ask yourself, well here's the deal :
KFC is short for Kempische Frisbee Club, and is a brand new team founded in Belgium by Rien De Keyser, a well known player from JetSet (Leuven,BE)) who played in England for a few years and really elevated his game.
JetSet hasn't really been a highflyer in the Belgian Indoor competitions so Rien decided to create his own team just for fun, and after a few weeks already took these newbies to the test at the first day of indoors.
Now here's the catch, and part of the reason I got up on a sunday morning writing this now :
KFC has,up until now, never lost a game of Ultimate !
That's quite an accomplishment if you figure that almost all of these players have never played Ultimate before going to the first BUIC day.
So now we are heading up to the 3rd day of the championship and KFC stays undefeated until now.
They started off in 5th division on day 1, went up to div4 only to win it all again and take the test today in division 3.
Pretty amazing if you think that these guys only have one practice night every two weeks, and up until a few weeks ago had no idea what pivoting,stall-count,handblock or pick ever meant.
Rien got some his of friends together, of whom a few very talented volleyball players and asked another Kempen local from JetSet (Robainz) and here they are now.
The message Rien wanted me to point is simply this : enjoy Ultimate, and if you wanna play but don't have a team nearby, just get some (sporty) friends together and just create your own team.
It doesn't always have to be big time pressure to perform and play good, just go out and have fun !

I'm pretty impressed by these guys and definitely thought it deserved some blogging attention.
Curious to see how they will do in 3rd division today !

More updates on day 3 coming tomorrow, as well as some posts on all new and old teams in Belgium in the next few weeks.
Keep checking back, and if your at BUIC day 3 in division 1 (where we = Gentle will be playing) please support the blog by purchasing yourself a nice Play Proud - Get Horizontal disc.

Cheers !

  2. actually they were in 3rd division yesterday, they go down to fourth division. They only won one game yesterday. They didn't have Robainz and had only 6 players. It was fun seeing this new team play. Their technique wasn't perfect yet, but as real sportman they went for every disc. They remind me of a young frisbier team.

  3. ...but without the beer :-)
Unfortunately the winning streak has ended.
We certainly did not play our best game, for which I can at least partially credit the other teams for playing such smooth, fast games, showing us what ultimate could and should look like. Our team definitely has now seen the higher level, tasted the higher level, and is well keen on coming back to third division to play step up to this higher level. Let's hope it works out well next BUIC day!

  4. Your mistake was not drinking the beer.

You'll learn this by playing Rien, don't worry..
